Joe and Kelly's Springtime Southend Barns Wedding

Right from our first meeting I knew Joe and Kelly were a couple who would stick in my mind - full of banter and mischief, they are both strong and interesting people who have a lot of love for each other and their family. Kelly is a self confessed tomboy; wholeheartedly obsessed with cycling, she doesn't like wearing dresses or makeup, and has never been shy to make it clear that she doesn't care much for having her photograph taken either! Luckily she is always up for a giggle, so in getting to know them throughout their engagement shoot and in creating a portrait for their guest signature canvas we had plenty of time for a good laugh and a chance for her to relax (and trust me!) in front of the lens.

Spring had well and truly sprung by the time the 6th May rolled around; the world was a lush green colour and had started to bloom. I arrived at Hunston Mill Cottages to meet the groomsmen and took great care when parking next to the gorgeous bright red Ferrari Joe had hired for his wedding day. More on that later!! The lads were full of laughs about the trials and tribulations of tying the rings onto the posh white ring-bearing cushion and the gifts that Joe had given them all; tie pins featuring various woodland animals. You can imagine the discussions (and the terrible puns) which ensued on the decision to give his two best men a fox and erm... a cockerel.

Karen & Jan’s Upwaltham Barns springtime wedding

Over the spring and summer months I often am found photographing classically traditional English weddings at a variety of stunning barn venues local to my home in West Sussex on the South Coast. The barns naturally lend themselves to everything countrified, rustic and quaint, and are the perfect setting for any English Rose to marry her Prince Charming. In May this year I found myself attending an exception to the all-English themed wedding when I was invited to photograph Karen and Jan at Upwaltham Barns. This romantic couple succeeded in beautifully blending an array of English and Spanish traditions and ideas together for their unique wedding day and it was a lovely breath of fresh air seeing the two cultures come together for such a poignant occasion.

Kate & Jon’s Southend Barns May Wedding

Kate and Jon are a lovely couple from the Midlands who totally knew how to personalise their wedding day, thinking of every detail to reflect their fun-loving relationship and personalities. They managed to showcase their own wonderful taste and style perfectly through all the detailed & thoughtful decor they had selected to display throughout the already beautiful rustic wedding venue.

Tying the knot at West Sussex’ gorgeous Southend Barns, Kate and Jon had the perfect spring country setting and were true ‘darling buds of May’, ensuring that their guests were able to indulge in a few English traditions such as croquet on the lawn and cream tea (with champagne, of course)! Originally a dairy farm, the stunningly restored venue which has been brought up to date in a modern/rustic style, maintains history whilst still giving hint to the original purpose of the rooms but offering a modern twist. Jon & Kate’s careful consideration of their chosen setting cleverly incorporated little personal touches that blended seamlessly with the existing subtle country theme seen throughout the barns.
